Hello,
write this post to highlight the National Day of June 2. An event that today, in my opinion, it is felt by the Italians with the right intensity and participation.
On this date we remember the institutional referendum on universal suffrage held on 2 and 3 June, in which all of the time the Italians were called to comment on what form to give to our country, monarchy or republic, following the defeat of fascism.
After 85 years of government under the monarchy, with 12,718,641 votes against 10,718,502, Italy became a republic and the monarchs of the Savoy family were exiled.
On June 2, then we celebrate the birth of the nation, a bit like in France is 14 July (the anniversary of Bastille Day) and the July 4 U.S. (day in 1776 was signed the Declaration of Independence).
I think we should be proud of being Italian and we must honor our citizens every day.
